Discourse

Women in the conflicting fields of "art - humour - poverty"
Lectures and panel discussion

Monday, December 1st (6.30 p.m.)
At KosmosTheater

How poor must one be to lose their sense of humour?
How precarious do the circumstances have to be to lose the ability to laugh?
Is humour a question of money?
Is it possible to make good art, if one is poor?
Or is it only possible to make good art, if one is poor?
If poverty is female, why is art so male dominated?

Introductory presentations Yaara Perah (Israel), Geni Viegas (Brazil) and Barbara Kraus (Austria)
followed by a panel discussion

Moderation: Michaela Moser

Translation is provided. Free entry!

„DONNA QUICHOTTE“
a day with the heroine of the knightly-sad shape

Tuesday, December 2nd (7.30 p.m.)
World Premiere!

Actress: Verena Vondrak
Director: Hubertus Zorell
Stage Design: Doris Alb

Donna Quichotte has a clear conception of life. Beginning in the morning. Nothing left to chance! Everything in the right place at the right time ... If you follow the rules of this game nothing can ever happen to you.
Donna Quichotte’s life is totally complete. One expects a lot of such a life. On top of that she is pregnant, and it didn’t happen yesterday. Her name will be Sancha Pansa!
The preparations are in progress, everything must be ready, everything must be beautiful. Everything must be perfect. Underpants are crocheted, a little dance is risked, some goodies are eaten …then there is happiness and satisfaction, cradling a child in one’s arms... like a saint …yeah, that’s true, women must be saints too … then everybody will be satisfied.

The only mistake is that we reached for something too high and now we are going to fall far.
It doesn’t matter, next time it will be the same….?
„Donna Quichotte“ is a show about the absolutely normal difficulty in making sense of the insistent world with even more insistent romantic conceptions and desires.
A play about the absurd charm of this heroic battle against these proverbial windmills.

Verena Vondrak, born in Vienna, actress, writer, puppeteer, costume maker, drama educator, clown.
