Discourse
Humor in the Crisis
Clown organizations working in crisis and war regions
Talks and Panel discussion
Monday 11/30/15 (7 pm)
At KosmosTheater
Organizations like Clowns without Borders and Red Noses Clowndoctors often carry out missions in regions of war and crisis, as well as in refugee camps in their own countries. For a short time they bring laughter into the lives of people who are suffering due to traumatic experiences and coping with a daily life in which there is no place for humor.
The work of these organizations will be presented in brief talks, and the speakers will explore what kind of social and artistic benefits can emerge from this work.
Speakers:
Annette Grömminger (AUT): Founder of Clowns without Borders Austria
Karola Sakotnik (AUT): Emergency Smile (RED NOSES International)
Hilary Chaplain (USA): The Big Apple Circus Clown Care Hospital Program
Karin Bergstrand (SWE): Member of Clowns without Borders Sweden
Moderation: Marty Huber (AUT): Queer-feminist activist and performance theorist

The play "Brenda Feuerle in Heaven" is the continuation of the enormous success of "Treuer wie Feuer/More Faithful than Fire" (clownin 2006). After an explosion, the fire fighter Brenda Feurle wakes up – or does she?
On one hand it's lovely: Brenda always wanted to learn to fly and is there anywhere more beautiful than a world of clouds? On the other hand: What is a fire fighter supposed do in heaven? There are no fires to extinguish, no cats to rescue.
Only when she talks to the gods does she begin to understand the extent of the "catastrophe."
How did she land in this bizarre company? Angels, gods, freedom, beauty, bliss – and this is supposed to be her job from now on? Doing nothing? Brenda has a few questions for the gods. She can't just sit there and watch what's happening in the world below, after all, she's a fire fighter!
A clown show with acrobatics and dance, with wit and poetry – with earthly and heavenly issues...
Elke Maria Riedmann, theatrical training at the Scuola Teatro Dimitri/CH, Desmond Jones School of Mime in London, and Jacques Lecoq in Paris.
She has performed her solo shows – "More faithful than Fire" and "Paradise on Earth" – at all the major female clown festivals in Europe and Brazil. The documentary film "Feuer und Flamme/Fire and Flame" starring Elke Maria Riedmann accompanies her on a tour through Brazil.
Along with her work as a clown, she works in a children's theater and as an actress at the Aktionstheater Martin Gruber, KosmosTheater Bregenz, and others./p>
