Discourse

Women in the conflicting fields of "art - humour - poverty"
Lectures and panel discussion

Monday, December 1st (6.30 p.m.)
At KosmosTheater

How poor must one be to lose their sense of humour?
How precarious do the circumstances have to be to lose the ability to laugh?
Is humour a question of money?
Is it possible to make good art, if one is poor?
Or is it only possible to make good art, if one is poor?
If poverty is female, why is art so male dominated?

Introductory presentations Yaara Perah (Israel), Geni Viegas (Brazil) and Barbara Kraus (Austria)
followed by a panel discussion

Moderation: Michaela Moser

Translation is provided. Free entry!

“Fredwart and Me, the History of a Friendship“

FREDWART: Hohner de LUX
Me: Martha Laschkolnig

Saturday, Nov. 29th 2008 (7.30 pm)

Photo: Lorenz Estermann

Her body transformed into a suitcase during a long journey.
The world no longer seems to be as it should.
When thunder and lightning awaken her from her bizarre world and she hears the voice of Fredwart she thinks it’s a declaration of love.
Unfortunately it is not the love of her life, but it turns out to be a good friendship.
She opens herself up to a new world. Together they write the three biggest hits of their lives, then they disappear from stage.
Even in life’s greatest chaos and greatest grief friendship will guide us safely.
A bright and melancholy clown show, a must-see for all lovers of poetic and clownish stories.

Martha Laschkolnig, born in Linz/Austria, 1999-2005 Academic Studies in Painting and Graphic Arts, Academy of Fine Arts Vienna.
Since 1997 participation in several workshops: clowning, acrobatics, music, dance and theatre; since 1998 performances in Europe and Australia, development of her own clown shows for street performances, circuses, and theatre.
